Some web sites are actually playing videos (site content and/or ads) continuously and these use up memory and computer resources, slowing things down.ĭefinitely uninstall it. I have seen such "leaks" with Firefox, especially when tabs and windows are left open for days or longer. Restarting can help when software is not well written and "leaks" memory, or does not release it properly. Also - restarting your Mac maybe once per week or even more often, will help some, depending on how you are using it. You can configure some of these programs to reopen the last open windows when you reopen them, so you can pick up easily where you left off and not lose anything. To release memory, you can close (shut down) programs not actively in use, especially browsers like Chrome, Firefox, which are known for using a lot of memory or at least close tabs and windows in the browsers when not needed. They can also cause functionality problems on the Mac.Ī Macbook Pro with Catalina uses very good memory management. They are checking every file that is in use (and maybe some that are not) and every bit of internet traffic to/from your computer for viruses that can affect PCs but not Macs, so this is a waste. Uninstalling those anti-virus apps and Clean My Mac will free up memory because they are using it constantly, in the background.
